Everyday, nearly 150, 000 people die due to several different causes. Cardiovascular diseases have a major part in this. According to WHO (the World Health Organization), a study in 2019 shows that the overall top 10 causes for deaths are:

  1. Cardiovascular diseases
  2. Cancers
  3. Respiratory diseases
  4. Lower respiratory infections
  5. Dementia
  6. Digestive diseases
  7. Neonatal diseases
  8. Diarrhoeal Diseases
  9. Diabetes
  10. Liver diseases

These are just the top 10 most occurring diseases, but there are many more that are unstated.

India and China both exceed a death rate of 25,000 per day due to population sizes. Otherwise, Russia has the highest death per million with 34.7 daily deaths.

During the pandemic, we need to be careful about sanitization, mental/physical health, and our overall well-being. So many people passed away due to loneliness and depression throughout these past 10 months. Not gonna lie, but I feel that it’s not only the virus that is affecting these statistics. Covid-19 did have its impacts, but it’s also the weather. It is so cold outside right now and the sun sets much quicker now than it did in the summer.

I think that when the lockdowns struck in March 2020, it was a pretty warm weather up to almost October/November actually (here in Ontario). You could’ve gone out for walks or bike rides and stuff, but now, it’s so cold that no one even tries to step outside (me included 😅). Well, that is, unless you have to clean snow out from your driveway or when you are getting groceries.

Problem

The problem here is that so many of us die because of isolation and struggles and hard times with work or family or social life, or anything at all. Especially when you are an elderly or live alone, there are higher chances of getting unhealthy (mentally or physically).

And also, if you are living with someone else, not many people can afford hospitals and treatments. It’s just too expensive for them.

Solution

Okay, I know that you may have heard this many many many times from different people but one of the best things to help sick people right now, when you can’t visit them, is, just call them on Zoom, WhatsApp, Google Meet or Skype, or any platform they know or can communicate on. This just doesn’t work with elderly people or citizens who are alone, maybe you’re friends need you or maybe they are suffering from something. You can call them on Instagram or Snapchat or y’know, whatever they use.

And it’s not just calling someone, maybe even a tiny message can help them. You can type something like “Hey, how’s your day going?” or “We haven’t chatted in such a long time!”. Anything like that that can keep your conversation going and who knows, they may have a smile on their face, just because of you. Or maybe, you just solved one of their problems just by texting.

If you see anyone you think are suffering from illnesses or any diseases whatsoever, please talk to them, ring them up and ask what they have been up to. Do as much as you can!

And most importantly, you need to stay healthy so you can do all this! You got this!
